Case Hardened is the family where the float value is the least interesting number on the listing. The finish simulates the mottled blue, gold and purple oxidation of heat-treated steel, and because it is applied as a randomly-seeded pattern rather than a fixed texture, every individual item in the game looks different from every other one.
That randomness created its own economy. Items whose seed happens to land a near-solid blue face — "blue gems" — trade for orders of magnitude more than an ordinary example of the identical skin at the identical wear, and specific pattern indexes are tracked and catalogued by the community. The prices on this page are for ordinary examples; a pattern-hunted item is a separate market.
